Many kinds of prickly pear cacti flourish in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Both the pads and the fruit are edible and are made into many products - some with medicinal value! The most popular varieties produce beautiful yellow and red blooms during spring and summer. This brilliant golden bloom is one of the first of the season where I live - about 50 miles south of Phoenix. It was captured on May 2, 2019, and I look forward to many more!
